County Executive Marc Elrich has proposed massive property tax, income tax, and fee increases! The County Council is trying to balance the budget by ending a homeowner tax credit (Income Tax Offset Credit or ITOC).
The budget is being debated at the County Council right now and will be voted on later this week!

TELL THE COUNCIL:
STOP SPENDING WHAT
WE CANNOT AFFORD
County officials are weighing a variety of proposals that our families cannot afford.

Property tax increases, income tax increases, removal of homeownership tax credits, along with many fee increases are all being discussed.

Housing, health care, education, and grocery prices are skyrocketing. And instead of easing the financial burden, county officials are proposing to make it worse.

Additionally, the economic uncertainty and massive layoffs of the federal workforce are adding to an already tough burden for our community.

Make no mistake: these tax hikes will be shouldered most by middle-class families. It will make the dream of homeownership harder to attain and more unaffordable to keep.

While our families tighten our belts and balance our budgets, our county government continues to spend more and grow the structural deficit. Montgomery County needs to live within their means.

RALLY AGAINST TAX INCREASES
HARDSHIP
FOR FAMILIES
With the increase in fuel, grocery, and health care prices, a tax increase will make it more difficult to find financial stability in our community.
BAD FOR
THE ECONOMY
Our focus should be on finding ways to increase housing affordability to help stimulate economic growth, especially with the massive layoffs of the federal workforce.
HURTS
SENIORS
Many of the proposed tax increases would be more than this year’s Social Security cost-of-living (COLA) increase. We cannot ask seniors to pay more taxes while their Social Security lags behind these hikes. Where are they supposed to find the money?
